Representatives from ImpactLife recently visited the Ottumwa branch of Food Bank of Iowa to present a $2047 donation from the blood center’s “Good Giving” donor promotion and to learn how the organization supports the charitable food system in southeast Iowa. Volunteer blood donors raised funds for Food Bank of Iowa through ImpactLife’s “Good Giving” donor promotion.

Food Bank of Iowa Ottumwa Branch Manager Sandra McReynolds provided a tour of the Ottumwa distribution center to representatives from ImpactLife on Monday, March 25 (see photos, below).

During the holiday season, ImpactLife blood donors were given a voucher to redeem for their choice of an electronic gift card or to donate the same amount to support local food banks in the blood center’s service region. Nearly 1000 donors directed their support to food banks for a total of $18,290 now being distributed to food banks that serve communities of the ImpactLife service region. (Additional check presentations and tours are scheduled with regional food banks across the blood center's service region.)

Food Bank of Iowa logoFrom its distribution center in Ottumwa, Food Bank of Iowa partners with local food pantries, non-profit organizations, churches, and school-based programs to help fight food insecurity in southeast Iowa. The food bank reports a record level of need in the region, and estimates one in seven Iowa families is unable to afford basic needs. For direct food assistance in Wapello County and the surrounding region, see Food Bank of Iowa's list of Ottumwa Service Area Resources.

Food Bank of Iowa partners with 700 agencies in 55 counties to distribute nearly 2 million pounds of food each month. Food Bank of Iowa states that $10 can provide food assistance for an Iowan for one week, so the donation made possible by ImpactLife blood donors will support 200 Iowans in need for one week.
