Seven elementary schools in the Muscatine Community School District are competing to see which school can recruit the most blood donors . The “Muskie Madness” blood drive runs from March 17 through April 14 at the ImpactLife donor center in Muscatine, with donations credited to each of the Muscatine elementary schools. The schools have a goal to recruit at least 20 donors each in order to earn a Lifesavings Grant from ImpactLife.

Muskie Madness graphicIn last year’s Muskie Madness Blood Drive, every school reached at least 20 donations for a total grant of $1926. LifeSavings grants can be used by the schools to fund projects or buy supplies, all while teaching the students the importance of donating blood.

To book an appointment for blood donation, please call (800) 747-5401, or schedule online at www.bloodcenter.org or via the ImpactLife mobile app (www.bloodcenter.org/app).

“Muskie Madness is a great opportunity for ImpactLife to build relationships within our communities and help students learn the importance of blood donation,” says Alex Burkamper, Community Development Advocate. “It’s fun seeing students excited about supporting the blood supply as well as their schools and community.”

Donor For Life: $20 / 1000 pt. bonus applies through March 31

To help improve schedules at its Donor Center locations during the busy Spring Break travel season, ImpactLife is now also offering a $20 / 1000 point bonus in Donor Rewards. Donation schedules have decreased during the last two weeks of March, due in part to many donors being away during Spring Break. The $20 bonus (or 1000 bonus Donor Rewards points) to all non-deferred donations made at its Donor Center locations applies automatically for all donations made at ImpactLife Donor Centers from March 17 through March 31. (For more information on Donor Rewards values, see www.bloodcenter.org/donorforlife.)

Anyone age 17 and up, or 16 with parental permission, may donate to support the school of their choice. When donors register to give blood at ImpactLife (2604 Second Ave., Muscatine), they simply need to provide the code for the school the choose to support to have it counted. (ImpactLife will also have the codes available on a poster at the donor center.)
