A winter storm in the southern half of the ImpactLife service region has caused the cancellation of blood drives, missed appointments for blood donation, and an overall estimated impact of more than 250 donations lost to weather yesterday and today. Additionally, ImpactLife has responded to a request for external blood inventory support by sending 100 units of red blood cells to Kentucky Blood Center. ImpactLife is now seeking additional donors to ensure its ongoing ability to support blood inventory in the affected region.
Donors may find a nearby Donor Center or mobile blood drive by calling (800) 747-5401, or schedule online at www.bloodcenter.org, or with the ImpactLife mobile app (www.bloodcenter.org/app).
“ImpactLife is helping other blood centers here in the Midwest, and we have experienced direct losses in donations Sunday and Monday due to snow and ice in the region,” said Amanda Hess, Vice President, Donor Relations and Marketing. “We estimate at least 250 donations lost from blood drive cancellations, missed appointments, and needing to close Donor Center locations due to weather. We are pleased to help support our fellow blood provider in Kentucky and we will need to add appointments to our schedules to maintain a strong and stable blood supply for our region and beyond.”
To thank donors who give blood during January’s National Blood Donor Month, ImpactLife is providing all donors a voucher to redeem for their choice of an electronic gift card, points to use in the ImpactLife Donor Rewards Store, or an equivalent value donation to support food banks within the ImpactLife service region.
