With less than a 2-day supply of type O-negative red blood cells, ImpactLife has an immediate and urgent need to increase appointments by O-negative donors and by platelet donors of all blood types. National Blood Donor Month
During January's National Blood Donor Month, all donors will receive a voucher to redeem for their choice of an electronic gift card, a donation to support food banks in the ImpactLife service region, or points to redeem in the Rewards Store. For more information, see www.bloodcenter.org/now.
- WHOLE BLOOD (all locations) $20 gift card or $20 donation or 1,000 points
- DOUBLE RED CELL DONATION (all locations) $25 gift card or $25 donation or 1,500 points
- PLATELET APHERESIS OR PLASMA (all locations) $30 or $30 donation or 2,000 points
Learn About National Blood Donor Month
The first National Blood Donor Month was recognized in 1970, following a proclamation by President Richard Nixon and a Joint Resolution of the U.S. Congress. The month-long recognition pays tribute to volunteer blood donors and encourages new donors to join the cause during a season that can present some of the greatest challenges for our region’s blood supply.
Extreme weather, seasonal illness, and the need to recover donations lost during the busy holiday season all contribute to the challenges blood providers face during the month of January. So far this year, ImpactLife has helped support blood inventory needs in connection with the New Year's Day attack in New Orleans and due to wildfires in southern California. The blood center has also experienced a loss of more than 250 donations caused by a winter storm that hit St. Louis and southern Illinois.
