Velico Medical, Inc. is proud to announce the expansion of its technology development initiative, the Blood Center Education Program (BCEP) through a collaboration with ImpactLife, an innovative provider of critical blood components and services and a recognized leader in emergency blood response strategies and partnerships.

ImpactLife, based in Davenport, Iowa, is working in partnership with Velico Medical, Inc. to add laboratory equipment to assist in the development of Velico’s FrontlineODP. The collaboration under Velico’s BCEP is designed to provide strategic blood center partners the opportunity to get hands-on experience with its FrontlineODP system for spray drying plasma, to evaluate potential integration into blood component production operations and to provide critical feedback on the commissioning and operational aspects of the system.

“This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of Velico and ImpactLife of advancing life-saving blood products with the goal of improving prehospital patient care in the United States and around the world,” says Richard Meehan, President, and CEO of Velico.

“ImpactLife is passionate about its mission of saving lives and advancing the practice of transfusion medicine.” says Mike Parejko, Chief Executive Officer of ImpactLife. “We are excited to have chosen a partnership with Velico to support development of what could become an important new product that EMS teams can deploy as a lifesaving measure in the field.”

“Early transfusion of blood products saves lives,” says Dr. Daniela Hermelin, Chief Medical Officer of ImpactLife. “Spray dried plasma is a dehydrated blood product that can be reconstituted with water by emergency response professionals in the field. This product does not require a wait time for thawing that is needed with frozen plasma products prior to transfusion. It could be used in military or civilian settings to treat life threatening bleeding. ImpactLife is looking forward to partnering in the development of this emerging point of care treatment.”

About FrontlineODP

Preventable death from hemorrhage following trauma is a global concern which has been targeted by trauma surgeons, emergency medical providers, mass casualty planners, the military and national governments as a top priority. Velico® is proud to be developing the Frontline ODP™ technology in support of this call to action.

A FrontlineODP™ Unit is spray dried plasma unit ready for rehydration. The intended use is for the management of traumatic hemorrhage where conventional plasma is unavailable or impractical for use such as pre-hospital transfusions, rural/austere hospitals or military applications.

Velico’s development program has been funded in whole or in part with federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services; Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response; Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, under contract number 75A50121C00059.
