Reference Laboratory services
The ImpactLife Reference Laboratory team brings more than 200 years of combined expertise in advanced blood banking and is dedicated to supporting our hospitals. Our laboratory plays a crucial role in ensuring safe blood transfusions by:
- Identifying and resolving transfusion-related issues
- Conducting advanced serologic and genomic testing
- Detecting antibodies against donor cells post-transfusion
- Matching patients with compatible donors
If confirmation or expert assistance is required to address immunohematology concerns, a Consultation Request form must be completed. Request forms should be submitted electronically via BloodHub when available to the requesting facility. In cases where electronic submission is not possible, the Immunohematology Consultation Request (Z-001) form must be used—please refer to the link below. Providing thorough and accurate patient information will help prioritize and expedite processing.
The blood center will manage the transportation of samples.
Once testing is completed, an initial report will be made available to the requesting hospital through BloodHub, accompanied by a courtesy phone call. A final report can be downloaded from BloodHub within 1-2 business days.
If specific blood units are required, the reference laboratory will screen our extensive antigen database and inventory to identify antigen-negative units. Additionally, ImpactLife partners with the American Rare Donor Program (ARDP) and other blood centers to locate rare donor units when necessary.
